There is no connectivity in the wall plug in my room
You may have no connection in the following cases:
- Because you have not yet visited us in the office hours and subscribed your room to the internet
- There’s an error in our database maintaining access, possibly due to an internal move or maybe an electrician has been fidgeting around. This is the most common problem. Write us an e-mail and we’ll check your room’s status in the system and, if needed, schedule a visit with you. Please write what room number this site shows.
- Because your wall plug is broken (they’re quite fragile). If the wall plug is visibly destroyed, contact
- Because you have violated the rules in the user agreement. You can contact the network administrators in the office hours, or e-mail
- Because the network equipment is faulty. Consider asking your neighbours to see if it’s a common fault. We have a monitoring system, so if equipment breaks we are probably already working on fixing it. However, you are always welcome to write to us on and ask for a status.
Why can’t my PlayStation/Xbox/Smart TV/Chromecast/smart wearable-device connect to WiFi “K-Net”?
K-Net has implemented a solution with WPA2 Enterprise (802.1X-mode) on the entire network. This achieves both a higher security as well as a segmentation between each users LAN. Unfortunately many producers of such smart devices have chosen not to support this type of networks; the only product of this type that we are aware of are Apple TV.
We cannot help in regards of personal device, but you’re welcome to setup your own router if you adhere to the rules on these!
Can I have an ADSL line installed in my room?
No, the board has decided not to allow this, since it is not necessary, and it would depend on either digging down a cable or making modifications to our telephone central.
Can I set up my own router with access point?
Yes, you can set up your own router with a wireless network, if you abide the following ruleset:
- The wireless network of the router shall be adequately secured i.e. with sufficient encryption (WPA2) and a strong password (to set a password on its wireless network, follow the instructions that came with the router).
- The wireless signal strength shall be adjusted to a minimum so as to not interfere with the dorm’s access points.
- The channel of the wireless network shall be set to the lowest possible. For 2.4 GHz-network (802.11a/b/g/n) this is channel 1; for 5 Ghz-network (802.11ac) this is usually channel 34 or 36.
- The name of the wireless network shall be set s.t. it contains your room letter and -number, s.t. the Netgroup are able to identify the signal if we need to contact your (e.g. concerning security alerts).
Can I open ports in the firewall to my connection?
Yes of course! You can control that on K-Net’s user pages.
How do I hide my name on the public resident’s list?
On the resident’s list, users residing within the dorm’s network, can see the name of residents in all rooms as well as the e-mail addresses. From the outside, all e-mail addresses are hidden.
When you are logged into the website, you can change these settings on the site for administering your user account. You can choose two settings:
- To remove your e-mail from the resident’s list. You will still receive e-mails from all the mailing lists to which you are subscribed.
- Completely remove your name from the list..
