In addition to the general subletting rules, there are a few more things you need to be aware of if you live in an apartment and want to sublet.
Subletting apartments can either be done if one of the two residents in the apartment is absent from the rental for a period of time, or if both residents are absent from the rental. If only one resident is absent, a subtenant can sublet into the apartment while the other resident is away. If both residents are absent for a period of time, the apartment can be sublet to a couple, either a couple or a couple of friends – however, the apartment may not be sublet to just one resident.
As with single rooms, apartments can be sublet for up to 6 months if the reason for the sublet is of an educational nature. If the reason for the sublet is not of an educational nature, subletting can be done for up to 3 months. This applies regardless of whether only one resident or both residents are absent.
The other rules for subletting apartments are the same as for single rooms.
